Some days I struggle to remember to even brush my teeth, so finding the time to look "camera ready" is just not a priority. But I know that when I do make a little extra effort it's almost like a complete 180-degree shift in my confidence. So I wanted to highlight the three products I've been using lately that help me feel more confident and ready to tackle filming my vlog. Like I tell my clients, you have to find what makes you feel confident and in control, which in turn will help you shine on camera!
1. Beautycounter Purifying Charcoal Mask
As new moms our confidence plummets thanks to postpartum woes like flabby bellies, brittle hair, and acne with a vengeance. Sometimes I ask myself, "Is this some type of cruel joke?!" as I pull out chunks of hair in the shower. I'm one of the lucky ones because I have crazy thick hair, but I make up for that luxury with my teenage-like cystic acne. It's been especially troublesome since I had Ev and decided not to go back on birth control. So my friend Lauren, a consultant with Beautycounter (whose goal is to get safer skincare and beauty products in the hands of everyone), said she had a solution to tame my angry skin. At this point, my old bar of Dove soap just wasn't cutting it, so I figured I'd give the Purifying Charcoal Mask from Beautycounter a try. It retails for $45 and on top of that, I paid an extra $25 for a 1-year membership to their Band of Beauty membership.

I've always felt more put-together and confident when I have my nails done, but who has time to hit up the nail salon or even let their nails dry while chasing a toddler who found the hidden stash of Halloween candy? Not me! So on a recent trip to Rite Aid I saw a BOGO half off sale on nail polish and Frugal Fran over here can't resist a deal like that. What the hell did I have to lose for $8?! I grabbed a light grey/purple (pictured) and bright red (my fave). Sure enough, after I finished my second hand Ev woke up from his nap with a 103-degree fever. Funnn! Much to my surprise the polish was dry and didn't smudge when I snuggled him and patted his back in the rocking chair. Three days later the polish started to chip, but if painting my nails takes 5 minutes + another 5 minutes to dry then I'm sold! Having your nails done when you're filming a vlog or going live on Facebook help you look like a rockstar mom! Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color retails for around $5 and is available at most big box stores like Rite Aid, Walmart, and Target or click here for Amazon.
This should come as no surprise, but I love a good lipstick! My mom has always worn funky lip colors and I guess that kinda stuck with me. A nice lip color helps you look polished, especially on camera! HOT TIP: you'll want to wear more makeup than you normally would because you don't want the lighting (either natural or studio) to wash you out.
While red lips are obviously my fave, I can appreciate other colors too. But what I'm not cool with is a process, so it needs to be a quick application and ready to go. I love this lipstick from Clinique, which I'm pretty sure came as a free gift because I bought a bajillion dollars worth of skin care products or makeup. It's colorful, sheer, and doesn't smudge! Win-win-win. Totally worth the price tag - Clinique has its lipstick formula down pat and they've been around since 1968 so lots of time to perfect it!
