2017 will be the year of video, mark my words. So no better time than the holidays to ask the hubby or family for some new pieces of video gear for your biz. Every year I send around my Amazon Wish List and simply cross my fingers!
In a previous post and vlog I talked all about the portable ring light for my smartphone, but after realizing that my little brick Hansel and Gretel cottage gets virtually no sunlight (especially during gloomy winter days in Pittsburgh), I needed to invest in some additional studio lighting. The ring light is perfect and it's not just for YouTube beauty stars! It's an easy setup, has a smartphone mount, and doesn't get hot like traditional shadow box lights. Win-win-win!
I'm currently using an old shoebox to prop my laptop up for Skype calls and QuickTime recordings because let's be honest, the straight on shot provides way too many chins for my liking. ;) This laptop stand received 5 stars from almost 3,000 reviews on Amazon, so I'm hopeful it will do the job! *Compatible with all sizes of Apple Macbook and Macbook Pro and 14" and 15" PCs with depths no more than 10.4 inches.
If you're like me, you don't have a production assistant a.k.a. your hubby to push the record button on your phone. So it's a lot of editing out my finger across the camera lens or running into the shot. I say, no more! A bluetooth smartphone remote would solve that problem. This one by CamKix (who makes all kind of crazy cool smartphone camera accessories) works for both iPhone and Android. It activates the phone shutter for still photos, or starts and stops the camera in video mode.
